- Switch 2
A cartoon kart racer for Nintendo Switch 2 in which the courses are joined into one connected world. Grand Prix races have up to 24 racers, Knockout Tour is a long elimination race across the map, and a free-roam mode lets you drive around and explore. It can be played alone, with up to four people on one console, or online.
How it makes money
Fair: pay clearly, know the ceiling
A one-off purchase of A$119.95 on the Nintendo eShop, and it only runs on Nintendo Switch 2. We found no paid DLC, in-game currency or in-game store on Nintendo's Australian page. Racing online needs a paid Nintendo Switch Online membership; solo and same-console play do not.

Reviews from across the web
What the critics said
-
8/ 10
IGN ↗
Does not see the open-world approach as a clear upgrade, but finds the racing, polish and new Knockout Tour mode still deliver.
-
9/ 10
GameSpot ↗
Says it builds on what made Mario Kart 8 work and sets up years of chaotic racing.
-
8.3/ 10
Game Informer ↗
Praises the driving feel, varied courses and multiplayer, but finds the free-roam world thin on things to do and the battle modes shallow.
-
9/ 10
Nintendo Life ↗
Finds it funny and a refinement of the formula rather than a reinvention, with some frustrations in the open-world and Grand Prix modes.

Classification
Age ratings judge content (violence, language, gambling themes). They say little about how hard a game pushes spending — that's what the badges above are for. About rating boards
Safety & parental controls
Who can talk to your child, and what can they buy?
- Voice chat
- Players can interact with strangers
- No user-made content
- No account needed
Worldwide online races match players with random opponents (up to 24), and the ESRB marks it 'Users Interact'. We found no free-text chat in the races themselves. Nintendo's Switch 2 GameChat (voice, with optional video from a USB-C camera) is a system feature and the Australian classification advice mentions chat; Nintendo says children need parent or guardian approval for it in the Nintendo Switch Parental Controls app. Online play needs a paid Nintendo Switch Online membership.
